Sword Active Risk congratulates Downer on winning Australasian Rail Safety Award 2015

Downer, a client of Sword Active Risk, has been voted winner of the Safety Award at the Australasian Rail Industry Awards 2015, held on Thursday 9th July 2015, at a Black Tie Gala Dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney. The Safety Award recognises world class safety strategies and technologies used by organisations in the rail industry in Australia and New Zealand. Downer won the award for its approach to safety and use of Sword Active Risk Manager for its Rail business. The event, sponsored by Laing O’Rourke, was an opportunity for industry colleagues to celebrate achievements across key fields including engineering; sustainability; safety and innovation, and was hosted by TrackSAFE Patron and Former Deputy Prime Minister, Tim Fischer AC.

Five Active Risk customers scoop top honours at IRM Global Risk Awards 2015

Sword Active Risk congratulates Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), Network Rail, and OMV Petrom on winning prestigious Institute of Risk Management Awards
Sword Active Risk, a supplier of specialist risk management software and services, has congratulated five of its customers including Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and ENEC, both winners at the recent IRM Global Risk Awards 2015. Clients Network Rail and OMV Petrom were also presented with top awards at the event, known as the Oscars of the risk industry. Over 400 risk professionals representing twenty countries attended the ceremony, held this year at the Hilton Hotel in London‟s Park Lane on 19 February 2015 and hosted by British actress Joanna Lumley.
IRM is the world’s leading professional body for risk management and the Global Risk Awards provide unique international recognition of excellence. Judged by a panel of academics and specialists from across the world, the Awards represent the pinnacle of achievement for risk professionals, teams and organizations.

Global Risk Awards, February 2013

Active Risk Manager (ARM) was recognized in the ‘Risk Management Solution’ category at the inaugural Global Risk Awards (presented by the Institute of Risk Management). ARM customer, Crossrail, also received a “Highly Commended” award for Partnership of the Year.
Congratulations also go to ARM customers Transport for London and Network Rail who were shortlisted for awards.
The judging was very rigorous, with a panel of 29 drawn from different sectors and from countries across the globe where the IRM is represented. Judges included ‘The Risk Doctor’ – Dr David Hillson and Professor Stephen Carver of Cranfield School of Management.
ARM users CH2M Hill, Network Rail, Crossrail and Amey joined the Active Risk table at the awards ceremony in London. The event was attended by 500 risk professionals from around the world.

CIR Risk Management Awards, November 2012

ARM Customer Skanska, the project development and construction group, won the overall ‘Award for Outstanding Contribution’ to the Risk Industry and also picked up the top award in the ‘Major Capital Projects’ category at the CIR Risk Management Awards dinner on November 20th, 2012.
In addition, the Skanska/Balfour Beatty Joint Venture won the ‘Major Capital Projects Award’ for their work to enhance the UK’s road infrastructure. Skanska were also ‘Highly Commended’ in the Transformation category and Kevin Morecroft, Risk Manager at Skanska Civil Engineering, was shortlisted for Risk Manager of the Year.

Risk Management Awards 2011


Several Active Risk customers were winners at the global Risk Management Awards 2011, which were presented at a ceremony in London on November 16th. The awards, run in association with the Institute of Risk Management, attracted over 400 of the most influential players in the risk industry to the awards dinner hosted by Risk Management Professional magazine and TV celebrity Ruby Wax. In addition to winning their awards, the Active Risk customers were also shortlisted in numerous categories. Other ARM users shortlisted for awards included Network Rail and Eurocopter.

Risk Manager of the Year

When at Active Risk customer Leighton Contractors, Karl Davey was awarded Risk Manager of the Year at the 2010/11 Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) Conference in Sydney. The award represents the pinnacle of risk management excellence and is awarded to individuals deemed to be at the forefront of best practice.


Leighton Contractors use Active Risk Manager (ARM) as the foundation of their risk management processes. Karl worked closely with Active Risk to drive innovation in both risk management processes and software. Over recent years Leighton Contractors has been embedding the risk system across all their projects to ensure they are part of business-as-usual operations. This has facilitated standardization and increased consistency across the company.

Risk Application of the Year

Active Risk Manager (ARM), was awarded “Risk Management Application of the Year” by the judges of the Risk Management Awards in late 2010. Active Risk customer Rio Tinto, one of the world’s leaders in finding, mining and processing the earth’s mineral resources, nominated ARM for the award.


The annual Risk Management Awards were run in association with the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) and recognize excellence and innovation in all facets of the discipline and industry. Winners were announced at a black tie awards ceremony and gala dinner at the Lancaster Hotel in London on November 18th, 2010 which attracted over 350 attendees from around the world.

Risk Sentinel Awards

Leighton Contractors, Australia’s largest Project Development & Contracting Group, has come top in 3 categories of the Risk Sentinel Awards. The winners were announced on August 10th, 2010 by Risk Management magazine at a reception in Sydney, Australia.


The awards “celebrate the best individuals and teams in the area of risk management” and “provide a telling contribution to the further advancement of risk management in Australia”, a country known for its leadership in the field. ARM customer Leighton triumphed in three out of the total of five categories and was runner-up in a fourth:
