Karl Davey of Strategic Thought customer Leighton Contractors has been named Risk Manager of the Year at the 2010/11 Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) Conference in Sydney. The award represents the pinnacle of risk management excellence and is awarded to the individual that is deemed to be at the forefront of best practice.
Karl Davey commented, “This award is fantastic recognition for me personally, but mainly for the wider Leighton Contractor business who have shown a huge commitment to managing risk and ensuring we have best-practice systems in place to support this focus.”
Leighton Contractors use Active Risk Manager (ARM) as the foundation of their risk management processes and Karl has been working closely with Strategic Thought Group to drive innovation in both risk management processes and software. Over the past two years Leighton has been embedding the risk system across all their projects to ensure they are part of business-as-usual operations. This has facilitated standardization and increased consistency across the company.
Karl continued, “We recognize that effective risk management improves our overall business performance. Well implemented processes lead to projects being delivered on time and within budget while improving the decision making process.”
This accolade for Karl and Leighton Contractors adds to their impressive 2010 trophy haul. Earlier in the year Leighton bagged three ‘Risk Sentinel’ awards which included “Best Implementation of a Risk Management Strategy” and “Best Use of Technology”. They also received two highly commendeds at the recent Risk Management Awards held in London in conjunction with the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).
